Freedom Changes Everything

There are moments in life when we pray for something so long that, when it finally happens, we focus on the blessing itself instead of everything that blessing makes possible. For our family this past weekend, that blessing came in the form of a new vehicle for Yalaynah.

For years, she and I navigated life with one vehicle. After our Hyundai Elantra was stolen in December 2022, we spent six months relying on a rental car, coordinating schedules, waiting on one another, and making countless adjustments just to get through each week. Even after moving to Georgia, we continued sharing transportation while we worked toward a better future. This week, that changed.

After years of waiting, saving, sacrificing, and trusting God through every setback, Yalaynah drove away in her own car! At first, I thought the greatest gift was watching her achieve a goal she worked so hard for. She saved her own money for the down payment, and I was more than happy to co-sign the loan so she could take this next step. During this exciting time, something unexpected happened, I realized the greatest gift wasn't the car. It was the freedom for her to go to work without coordinating schedules, freedom for me to run errands without watching the clock and freedom to say "yes" to opportunities instead of asking, "Who needs the car?"

Freedom to breathe; healing doesn't arrive with fireworks or dramatic moments, it quietly enters your life disguised as margin. Margin to rest, move your body, enjoy a cup of coffee without rushing, or to build your dreams. This weekend reminded me that freedom isn't always about having more, it’s about removing the weight you've been carrying for far too long.

If you're in a season where you're still waiting for your breakthrough, don't lose heart. Keep taking faithful steps and above all, keep trusting the process. The blessing God has for you may be far greater than the thing you've been praying for, because it will create space for everything that comes after it.

Sometimes healing begins the moment you finally have room to breathe and this week, that healing arrived on four wheels, and I'm incredibly grateful.

Rooted in Healing, Rising in Hope.
